About Graham Bloem
Born is Johannesburg South Africa and according to his folks he came into this world an animal lover! From the time he was born he has been instinctively attracted to all animals, although his true love is dogs! At the age of 5 Graham immigrated to Toronto Canada but enjoyed frequent trips back to South Africa and spent most of his time in the National Parks. He has been lucky enough to have been to the Kruger Park many times in his life and each visit had amazing interactions and encounters with wild exotic animals. His passion for animals continued in Canada where he spent much of his time outdoors exploring, going to local zoos, wild life conservations and spending time with his own pet dog. From Canada he immigrated to the US, finishing high school in the fast paced Northern California. Graham is now a permanent resident and citizen of the United States and is residing in beautiful sunny San Diego California.
For two years he managed a local pet nutrition store and really took some time learning all about dogs and cats nutritional needs. During his employment there he began to hear many stories about dogs with behavior issues, food allergies and medical issues. It was then that he realized that he wanted to work to pursue a career working with dogs.
Graham did some much-needed research and found a school for Dog Trainers. He enrolled at Animal Behavior College, the largest and most successful school of its kind. A year later, while working full time, he graduated with honors and obtained his certification as an Animal Behavior College Certified Dog Trainer (ABCDT).
His first job out of college was as an animal care technician at the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Seeing his knowledge and skill in dog obedience he was soon promoted to dog trainer for the entire center. Over the course of three plus years, he worked with thousands of dogs and continued his studies to further his understanding of dogs and their needs. Graham became a specialist in behavior modification and helped save many dogs from an uncertain future. After gaining much needed experience at Helen Woodward, Graham resigned to follow his dream and grow his company West Coast K9. During this transition he was contacted by his alma-matter ABC and was asked to accept the prestigious position of senior mentor trainer for the college. In this position he was now able to assist in the process of certifying other trainers in California.
Graham has been fortunate enough to participate in television interviews, fundraisers, was featured in an issue of Dog Fancy Magazine, a contributing writer of articles in Dog’s Life magazine, ran seminars for the Learning Annex on dog care and training, appeared on radio shows, and news interviews on major networks such as NBC, CBS, FOX and CNN. Many of these media opportunities came about because of his involvement with dogs rescued in the war-zone in Iraq. It started with Lava, a puppy rescued during the battle of Fallujah and brought back to the states by Lt. Col. Jay Kopelman. Lava now resides in La Jolla, California with Jay, now retired from the Marine Corps. Lava is an amazing, loving dog with outstanding senses and incredible intelligence. Graham assisted in socializing and training Lava, teaching him basic and advanced obedience commands. Jay wrote an incredible book titled From Bagdad with Love about the war in Iraq and Lava’s rescue.
Shortly after working with Lava, in 2006 Graham accepted an offer from Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas, California. He was their contracting trainer, responsible for behavior assessment, evaluation, treatment plans, staff training, creating and running training programs such as the Animal Training Program, which is an all-volunteer based program and other training related tasks. In 2007, Graham Bloem had the amazing opportunity of working with yet another dog that was rescued from the war-zone in Iraq by Maj. Brian Dennis of the Marine Corps. Major Dennis bonded with a stray mixed-breed dog while serving his country in Iraq. He named the dog Nubs after learning that someone had cut his ears off, as it was their belief that it would make Nubs tougher in the wild. Brian later wrote the best selling children’s book, “Nubs – The True Story of A Mutt, A Marine and A Miracle.
In late 2008, Graham lost a dear friend and co-worker leading to the close of his business and he transferred over to Snug Pet Resort, a 5 Star Pet Resort Co-owned by LaDainian Tomlinson & Mike and Toni Stone. Snug is a top-notch Veterinary hospital, boarding and training facility where Graham has had the opportunity to work with many more dogs and their wonderful owners. Graham is now the Director of Operations at Snug Pet Resort and continues to specialize in behavior cases. Last but not least he is a proud co-owner owner of the online Pet Supply company, DTW, that specializes in dog training products as well as other pet supplies and professional guidance on understanding your pet and how these tools can assist you at home.

Brian split his time growing up in St. Pete Beach, Florida and Des Moines, Iowa. He has been in the United States Marine Corps since he was nineteen years old. Brian’s career in the Marines has been quite varied with jobs ranging from Recon Marine to F/A-18 Hornet pilot; he has made three combat deployments to Iraq. Brian graduated from the University of South Florida in 1997 majoring in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences. His life changed dramatically when he rescued a little earless dog from Iraq named Nubs. Now Brian, Nubs, and Brian’s other pound rescue, Bogey all live together in San Diego. They love going to the beach and running on Mission Trails. Brian’s love of dogs is unmatched…after all, he made it his mission to save a wild dog injured in the deserts of Iraq and would do it all over again without even thinking about it. Brian is still an active duty major in the Marines and flies F/A-18s out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California. Brian is also a partner of the growing online pet supply company, Dog Training Warehouse.
